A yoga school nestled in the forest

Hara Village, on the western foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains A space overlooking the forest Get away from the everyday and take a deep breath Come and experience inner serenity

SHALA

SHALA means "house" in Sanskrit. It is also the word used to describe a space for teaching traditional Indian yoga.

School of Yoga

"Yoga" is not just exercise where you hold certain poses. It is a systematic method to purify and harmonize the mind and body.

It works on the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems holistically, and if done correctly, it is extremely effective for the health of the mind and body. It is an empirical knowledge with a tradition dating back thousands of years, and once you start learning it, there are always new discoveries to be made.

At SHALA, which we built in the Yatsugatake Mountains, we aim to enrich our lives by learning and practicing yoga together in a natural environment.

Shizuho Seki

Yoga instructor for instructor training and yoga instructor at Seijo Kinoshita Hospital

She encountered yoga while living abroad for about 20 years, and after training in Hatha Yoga under Wanda Hewitt in Hong Kong from around 2009, she began working as a local instructor. Having successfully reduced her weight from 70kg to the 40kg range, she initially focused on the effectiveness of yoga in terms of dieting and beauty.

In order to improve her own practice level, she went to India in 2013 and practiced Ashtanga yoga under Master Jai Prakash in Mysore, India. Through this practice, she began to realize that yoga has a profound effect on the mind. In particular, she gained a deep understanding through experience of the cycle in which the mind becomes brighter through the purification of the body, which then leads to a sense of happiness.

She married the man she met while studying in India and took that opportunity to move to Tokyo, where she began her career as a maternity and postnatal yoga instructor at yoga studios in Jiyugaoka and Chitose-Funabashi.

She gave birth at Seijo Kinoshita Hospital at the ages of 42 and 44, and in April 2017 began working as an exclusive yoga instructor at the hospital.

In 2019, he began working as a yoga instructor training instructor, teaching in Tokyo and Kamakura. So far, 36 people have obtained instructor certification (diploma), and an increasing number of them are working as yoga instructors.

To further her studies, she went to Maui, Hawaii to study yoga under Nancy Gilgoff and also received direct instruction from David Swenson, one of Nancy's students.

Through her extensive training in India, teaching experience in Tokyo, and her own experience of giving birth, she has grown into a yoga instructor with a deep understanding of both theory and practice, especially in the fields of maternity yoga and postnatal yoga.

He teaches more than 250 students in Japan each month.

I try to observe each student's physical condition, their habits of using their body, and then carefully advise them on how to improve. The class progresses slowly, and the program continues to improve through communication with doctors and midwives.

Yoga strengthens muscles, corrects skeletal misalignments, and purifies the nervous system. As the body becomes stronger and more flexible, the mind becomes clearer and more stable. I hope that you will become a window into the profound world of yoga.

We hope to contribute to making everyone who visits Shala happier.
